Traffic is going to be closed for likely the remainder of today (Feb. 4) on 2nd Avenue between George and Dominion Streets.

This is a result of a burst City water main, causing slippery roads and some local businesses without any water supply, including Surplus Herbie’s and the Lheidli T’enneh Economic Development office.

Crews are on scene trying to fix the broken main and restore water usage to other buildings in the area

They expect the operation to take until the end of the day due to other pipes running adjacent to the burst main that heat key buildings in the downtown core.

This includes:

  • City Hall
  • The RCMP Building
  • The Law Courts
  • Prince George Public Library
  • Prince George Civic Centre
  • The Four Seasons Pool
  • UNBC's Wood Innovation and Design Centre
  • Two Rivers Gallery
  • Plaza 400

According to the City of Prince George release, the 15cm cast-iron main was installed in 1967 near the District Energy Distribution Centre.
