If Tami Goto wants to claim her first World Championship title, she’ll (literally) have to fly halfway around the world to find it.
The Prince George athlete has been chosen as one of four B.C. judokas to join Team Canada in its quest for global dominance on the mat at the 2019 World Cadet Championships in Kazakhstan.
The cadet level of judo is for competitors under the age of 18, regardless of weight classification, and this tournament is set to bring the best of the best from several nations.
Goto is hoping to build off the success she has already this year.
She took home a bronze medal in her 48 kg division at the 2019 Canadian Open Nationals in Edmonton last month.
In April, Goto knocked down a perfect tournament in the 52 kg weight class at Senior Provincials and was rewarded with the gold medal.
Brae Booth (Creston), Finn Schroder (Victoria), and Jordann Warner (Campbell River) round out the Judo B.C. athletes joining Goto on the international stage.
The World Cadet Championships are set for Sept. 25 to 28.
