In this edition of Kings vs. Kings, the ice tilted away from visiting Prince George.

The Spruce Kings scored first, held a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes, then let Powell River break loose on offense with three unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory Thursday night (Oct. 24).

Up against newly acquired goaltender Derek Krall, the red, white and blue were stymied on 25 of 26 attempts, with the only tally coming from alternate captain Nick Poisson.

Prince George’s Jett Alexander had the busier evening between the two netminders with 34 shots directed his way and stopped 31 of them in the first of two battle royales.

Poisson’s marker, his team-leading 19th point of the 2019-20 season, was the first of the five-goal contest at over 10 minutes into the first period.

Evan Orr and Nolan Welsh assisted on the score.

The host-Kings tied it up over a full period later at the 11:43 mark of the second.

The Spruce Kings then gave up a power-play goal seven minutes into the final frame, followed by two goals in 45 seconds, including an empty-netter, resulting in the 4-1 final.

This extends Prince George’s losing streak to two games and drops their record to 5-8-2-1, while Powell River snaps a seven-game losing skid.

Brett Pfoh switched sides before this game after being dealt from the Spruce Kings to Powell River.

The 17-year-old only notched three points in 15 games with Prince George prior to Wednesday’s (Oct. 23) trade.

The Island Division road swing continues tomorrow (Oct. 26) when the ‘Kings head to B.C.’s capital city to face the Victoria Grizzlies at 7 p.m. before taking on Cowichan Valley on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27).
