Police are warning the public after a recent string of motorcycle thefts in the area.
Since June 1, a dozen have been reported stolen, up from five over the first five months of the year, according to Prince George RCMP.
"The motorbikes range in style from mopeds to street bikes, but are mostly of the dirt bike variety," RCMP said.
They were stolen from parking lots, back yards, carports and driveways. Some were locked and others were not.
Seven remain missing:
- a black 1989 Yamaha Riva moped, reported stolen June 7;
- an orange 2008 KTM SX-F 250 dirt bike, reported stolen June 9;
- a blue 2014 Yamaha TW 200 dual sport, reported stolen June 12;
- a red 2016 Honda 110cc dirt bike, reported stolen June 16;
- a green 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 enduro, reported stolen June 18;
- a yellow 2003 Suzuki DR 400 dirt bike, reported stolen June 18;
- a red 2009 Kymcu Vital moped, reported stolen June 27.
RCMP are urging owners to take steps to prevent thefts. They include storing their bikes out of the sight of thieves and keeping them locked, even inside a storage locker, shed or a garage.
Also use high quality locks of case-hardened steel, as poor quality locks can be cut in seconds. It is important to secure it to an immovable object, RCMP added.
And record serial number, make, model, colour and any special identifying marks. Keep the record safe at home or in a safety deposit box with other serial numbers of valuables.
