Prince George RCMP says thieves are stealing firearms from vehicles throughout the city. Eight long guns and ammunition have been stolen so far.

Since Oct. 8, Prince George Mounties have received four reports of firearms being stolen from vehicles parked at or near local hotels.

Police say thieves are targeting vehicles that appear to belong to hunters in the hopes that their firearms are being left in the vehicles. In most cases, windows are being smashed to gain access to the guns. In one case, the vehicle had been left unlocked.

All thefts happened during the night.

Police are asking hunters to ensure that their firearms and ammunition are being stored properly by taking them into their hotel room for the night. Hotel staff are being asked to advise patrons to take their firearms, ammunition and anything of value into their rooms.

If you have any information about the thefts, please contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
