To use an overused phrase, this has been an unprecedented year.

And, with everyone staying home because of the pandemic, Prince George, like most of Canada, has ordered lots of take-out and delivery.

Throughout 2020, Prince George has used the SkipTheDishes app to support local restaurants and the company is reporting that 40 per cent more restaurants in the city joined its delivery service this year.

Thus far, the company says the most popular independent restaurants on the app are:

  • Dana Mandi on Fifth Avenue
  • Madras Maple Café on Ogilvie Street
  • Amigo’s Taco Shop on Brunswick Street

As far as what the most popular orders are in the northern capital this year, the company says Prince George's top choices are burgers, noodles and ice cream.

SkipTheDishes says Prince George’s top picks look a bit different than national trends, which include Asian dishes, burgers and pizza as the top three most-ordered items.

This begs the question, who exactly has been ordering so much ice cream?

Prince George is just part of the picture in B.C., and the company outlined some of the best trends it’s found throughout the province:

  • British Columbia is one of the top three provinces that orders the most vegan, dairy-free and organic items per capita in Canada
  • The most expensive order was $845
    • The most expensive order in Canada was $900.27 in Edmonton
  • Someone in British Columbia has ordered 759 times this year
  • Skip launched alcohol delivery in B.C. in 2017 and alcohol orders grew 117 per cent province-wide in 2020 as Canadians relied upon Skip to socially distance
  • The most popular day and time to place alcohol orders is Saturdays at 7 p.m.
  • Who doesn’t love convenience? In 2020, the most-ordered convenience item: slushies
  • B.C.’s biggest day for Skip orders was May 22
    • In Canada, Oct. 16 was the biggest ordering day
