Wally, the small black Burns Lake dog who was lost in Prince George for over two weeks has been reunited with his family.
The shih-zu lab cross, had been lost for over two weeks after escaping out of his family’s truck when they stopped at Pine Centre Mall on their way back home from a trip to Edmonton.
A group of local volunteers formed a Facebook group with over two hundred members to help find Wally.
He was spotted all over the city by the group who devoted themselves to his capture and safe return, but the was too spooked and quick to be caught.
Shawntee Lagimodiere, Wally’s owner, also drove to Prince George from Burns Lake every second day to help look for him.
Wally was finally captured on Saturday night (July 11) by Tracey Dery, a Wally Facebook group member, who was out walking her Sheltie near Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park.
She says that Wally was intrigued by her dog, Cyber, and the garlic sausage she was feeding him.
“I played fetch with my pup, throwing the ball closer and closer to Wally,” says Dery, in a Facebook post where she details Wally’s capture. “When Cyber brought the ball back he got a treat.”
She says Wally suddenly got up and came over to share in the treats she was giving Cyber.
“I gave him a bunch from my hand until I felt I had his trust and then I grabbed him,” says Dery, adding that she brought him to her car where she had a crate waiting.
Lagimodiere and her boyfriend left Burns Lake that night to go pick up Wally. When Wally finally saw her he jumped right up into her arms.
“He’s sleeping now,” says Lagimodiere, who now has her beloved pup back. “He’s good but he has a lot of tree branches struck in his hair and he’s pretty dirty.”
Lagimodiere and her boyfriend say Wally is pretty skinny after his two-week ordeal but they plan to feed him a lot of treats now that he’s returned.
“It’s crazy that he’s come home with us again.”
