The Scene PG magazine beat some stiff competition from some of Canada's largest media outlets to take home the top prize in two categories at the Great Idea Awards.
The local arts and entertainment magazine produced by The Prince George Citizen won for the best young reader engagement initiative open division and best magazine of its size.
In the youth engagement category the Scene beat out entries from the Toronto Star and Hamilton Spectator to nab the top honours.
"When it comes to winning awards, it's always nice to be recognized and in this new media landscape we are constantly looking for new and creative ways to help our customers succeed," Citizen advertising manager Dave Smith said.
"We have a very creative team in our advertising department and each and everyday we look outside the box for new marketing ideas that not only appeal our existing readership, but connect with a whole new audience of non-traditional readers."
The Scene, the brainchild of Citizen event and promotion management officer Norm Coyne, edged out another Citizen publication in the best magazine, small market category. The Citizen's True North publication came second, ahead of an entry from the Medicine Hat News.
The A Healthier You Expo, a partnership between The Citizen, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond and the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society was also a big winner. It won first place in the daily newspaper small market promotional campaign ahead of two entries from The Guardian in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
"These wins are owed to the strength of collaborative efforts between The Citizen team and our partners throughout Prince George," Coyne said.
"Whether it is a partnership with MLA Shirley Bond and IMSS with the Healthier You Expo, or the engagement of the arts and entertainment community in the Scene PG by talented individuals like Trevor Moore and Christos Sagiorgis, our success is a result of executing the right project with the right people for the right audience. Everybody wins."
Two other Citizen campaigns took home runner-up prizes. The Citizen placed third in the newspaper marketing and promotion small market category for its "Smart is the new sexy" project and the paper also finished third in the daily news small market advertising category for its Barkerville Geekend product.
The Great Ideas Awards are handed out annually by Newspapers Canada.
