With the 2015 Canada Winter Games on its way, Prince George has been considering downtown beautification and revitalization, and the city has the opportunity to get a free expert opinion thanks to a presentation by Bing Thom Architects principal Michael Heeney, one of Canada's top architectural firms.

"It's a pretty big scoop for us to get such a well known architect to come to Prince George," said said Neil Godbout, Prince George Library communication co-ordinator.

Heeney is giving a free talk tonight at 7 p.m. in the Keith Gordon room of the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library as a bonus to a visit on unrelated business.

Bing Thom Architects's philosophy is functional and beautifully designed buildings and public spaces in the city core, which works to attract further improvement and development and increase civic pride.

Heeney designed buildings in Surrey, Washington DC and Texas, and he recognizes the importance of creativity and culture in contributing to the health of urban centres.

For a project Heeney was involved in called Build Surrey, the firm focused on creating the Lower Mainland's second downtown district by including several new building such as a library, city hall, recreation centre, performance arts theatre, community plaza and covered youth park.
