The Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society hosted the inaugural Northern Badminton Smash tournament this past weekend at the College of New Caledonia gymnasium. Twenty-four players had signed up for the two-day tournament. Prince George's Chris Wadson defeated Fort St. John's Rishav Sharma by a score of 24-22 and 21-19 to claim the men's single title. Chille Ochena of Prince George was victorious in her match against Leeshelle Cortez from Fort St. John winning by a score of 21-7 and 21-12. In the mixed doubles final it was Prince George versus Fort St. John as Wadson and Ochena teamed up to take on Sharma and Cortez. It took three sets but in the end Wadson and Ochena hoisted the trophy as champs with scores of 22-24, 21-18, and 23-21.
