A big celebration will be happening jointly with Elks Lodge 122 and the Royal Purple Lodge 48 as members celebrate their 85th and 65th anniversaries, respectively, in Prince George.
On April 24, during the annual district meeting, the organizations will hold a banquet, ceremony and dance in the Royal Canadian Legion auditorium in their purple uniforms with pomp, ceremony and music by the Elks Elastic Band.
Royal Purple's national president Joyce Spilchuk from Regina will join the festivities along with Elks vice president Robert Larsen of Grande Prairie.
Laurie Meier, past president of the local Elks club, said there will be a number of guest speakers at the celebration, "but we're disappointed that no one from our city hall will be there."
"Both the councillors and the mayor told us they are busy," said Meier.
The occasion will honour three Elks, Hilliard Clare, Pete Peters and Ted Range who will be recognized for 55 years of service with the local Elks. Read more in The Citizen about members being honoured and local organizations that will benefit.
