It isn't news employees want to hear before Christmas: Canfor has extended its temporary B.C. curtailment.

In a press release, the company says the action will be throughout the first quarter of 2019, which means reduced operating hours will remain.

"This decision is due to a continuing decline in lumber prices, in addition to high log costs and log supply constraints," Canfor says in the release.

The extension and cut in operating hours are expected to reduce Canfor's production output by an additional 55 million board feet in quarter one of the new year.

Sawmills are scheduled to resume production on Jan. 7.

Thirteen sawmills are affected, including Prince George.
