Customers can only benefit from increased competition and it turns out job seekers can too.

As part of introducing its Optik TV service to northern B.C. Telus is adding to the local payroll to the tune of 32 additional jobs.

After doubling the size of the company's Prince George call centre to 150 agents over 2008 and 2009, Telus has hired an additional 24 agents over the last couple of months, which have either just started training or are about to do so.

"That takes us to 174 agents in the centre," Telus spokesman Shawn Hall said. "These are good jobs, paying in the range of $50,000 and more."

That's not all - over the next six months 16 technicians will be hired for northern B.C. with eight of the jobs will be right in Prince George, four in Terrace, one in MacKenzie, one in McBride, one in Houston, and one in Smithers.

"Our goal is to hire them locally, so we're looking for folks with telecommunications training, electrical training, and the like," said Hall, who added those jobs pay between $60,000 and $70,000, depending on the position.
