A teenager was killed this week when the dirt bike he was riding collided with a pickup driven by another youth.

It happened Thursday at about 5:30 p.m. on a rural road about 30 kilometres east of Vanderhoof. It was the second time in 48 hours that a local young person has died on a road in the same vicinity. On Tuesday evening, 18-year-old Prince George resident, the lone occupant of a car on Lloyd Drive, lost control and did not survive a crash on the southeast side of Cluculz Lake.

In this latest incident, the victim was 14 years old and the surviving, uninjured driver of the pickup was 19. Both were from the Vanderhoof area.

"The young man was riding a dirt bike on Gill Place Road," said North District RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "A collision reconstructionist, from North District has been called to the scene of the collision. Although the investigation is still in its infancy, the initial evidence suggests that speed is likely a factor in this crash."
