Visitors to the city centre are met with a tidy traipse through downtown Prince George, thanks to a dedicated group of community members.
The Downtown Business Improvement Association's (DBIA) Clean Team is responsible for keeping the streets garbage free, something the local tourism group is grateful for.
"We have many, many visitors every day that come into the visitors centre, especially our Europeans, and one of their first questions is 'Where's your downtown?" said Tourism Prince George visitor's centre manager Sherry Powney. "We've had them come back to us and say we have a very clean downtown."
And while the compliments are uplifting to tourism staff, the real praise goes to the people who do the hard work, Powney said.
Now in its third year, the DBIA's Clean Team program employs Prince George Brain Injured Group clients who are responsible for keeping allotted blocks of the downtown area free of trash.
"They're very proud of what they do," explained DBIA general manager Linda Self. " It gives them a feeling of some self worth and pride in the downtown and knowing that they're contributing back to the city."
The program is partly funded with a federal wage subsidy through Kopar Administration to help the DBIA pay the wages for two individuals in the winter and five through the summer.
"We're very appreciative of what they do and between the two us we're showing a positive side to our community," said Powney.
