Teachers were generally greeted with "honks and waves" when they took to Prince George sidewalks Monday for the first day of a three-day strike to protest pending provincial government legislation that will force an end to the job action of 41,000 teachers around the province.

There was the occasional obscene gesture from a disgruntled passerby, teacher Brian Hatcher admitted as he gathered with about 10 others along Ferry Avenue in front of the school board office to wave their signs, but for the most part, drivers were giving expressions of support.
