TC Energy, the company behind the Coastal GasLink pipeline project, has committed $150,000 towards trades training at the College of New Caledonia.
The centrepiece is a bursary program with awards ranging from $750 to $1,000 are now in place for students enrolled in trades aligning with the pipeline's construction and operational needs - heavy mechanical, welding, metal fabrication, power engineering, professional cook, electrical, and carpentry.
Students can apply for the bursaries at cnc.bc.ca/services/financial-aid.
The funding will also go towards purchasing and upgrading trades equipment at CNC's five campuses and towards a safety training week in 2021.
“Coastal GasLink is aiming to leave a legacy of skills development with our project,” said CGL public affairs manager Kiel Giddens in a statement issued Monday. “We’ve been investing in skills development and long-term education programs to support Indigenous and local residents since project planning started and we are proud to partner again with the College of New Caledonia.”
In 2015, TC Energy's predecessor, TransCanada committed $250,000 in donations to CNC. The money also went to student awards and a safety training week as well as an expansion of digitial delivery instruction at CNC's regional campuses.
“We’re thankful to Coastal GasLink for its continued support and investment in northern B.C.’s next generation of skilled trade workers.”
