Takla Landing, about 320 km north of Prince George, has confirmed a positive COVID-19 case in the community and is now on high alert.

The small First Nations community in northwest B.C. is now on a two-week shutdown and will monitor access to all visitors and non-resident members.

Takla Nation is also keeping an eye on all travelling community members and ensuring that they are following the 14 days self-isolation once returning back to the community.

It has set up a checkpoint to monitor essential travel and access to the community.

The member that tested positive has been transported out of the community and is in self-isolation, and Takla Nation is working diligently on contact tracing along with First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) and the Provincial Health Officer.

The Nation says Chief and Council and the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) team are working fast to ensure the health and safety of all community members.

The two-week shutdown includes all services in community such as the administration office, community school, and the hotel.

Takla Trading Post (store) and restaurant will remain open with enforced safety precautions and the health centre is open by appointment only.

Applications to enter the community can be requested through eocplans@taklafn.ca.
