A 35-year-old Takla Lake man was sentenced Monday to time served in jail and two years probation for touching three girls for a sexual purpose.

Following a trial, the man had been found guilty of committing the act on a 12-year-old niece in a Prince George home in August 2015.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to the offence from incidents in July 2015 involving a cousin and one of her friends, both 15 years old, who were staying in his home in Takla Lake.

A court-ordered publication ban against information that would identify the victims prevents his name from being published.

Among the conditions of his probation, he must refrain from contacting the three victims with the exception of when a "shame potlatch" is held in the aboriginal community north of Fort St. James.

In passing sentence, B.C. Supreme Court Justice James Williams noted the man's extensive criminal record, that included one previous conviction for a sexual offence, and urged him to "get it together."

"Get mirror and take a look in it frequently because you've got to make some changes," Williams said.

The man had been in custody for nine months prior to sentencing, and based roughly on 1 1/2 days credit for each day served, he was sentenced to 13 months time served.
