Cold is a state of mind that can be overcome by the power of positive thinking. It worked for this man, who fearlessly took part in the polar dip at Ness Lake Bible Camp last year. The 19th annual New Year's Day tradition is set for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
It's a chilly tradition this time of year.
Polar bear dippers are a brave lot and on New Year's Day their courage will be put to the test.
Come rain, sleet, snow or blizzard, the 19th annual polar bear dip will go ahead as scheduled Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Ness Lake Bible Camp.
Dozens of participants will take the plunge into a hole cut into the ice on the shore of Ness Lake to raise money to send kids to summer camp.
Last year the polar bear dip raised about $8,000 and the goal this year to reach $10,000 in donations and 100 participants. Pledge forms are available online at nesslakebiblecamp.com.
All participants from the catchment area of Ron Brent elementary school can skip the $25 entry fee and take part in the event free of charge. Prizes will be awarded for best costume and biggest fundraiser.
Dippers are being asked to check in at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
