Anyone who wants to see how CSI-like science is done should check out the College of New Caledonia's medical laboratory technology open house April 19 during National Medical Laboratory week from April 19 to 23.
First- and second-year students are opening up the Med Lab Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. for a variety of demonstrations that include microbiology plates with germs growing on them; hematology blood cell slides, brain tissue slides, and units of blood for transfusions for people to see.
"It's National Medical Laboratory week and this gives us an opportunity to open our doors to the public and promote our program," said Karen Bowers, medical laboratory technologist instructor and program coordinator.
Door prizes and games also provide interactive opportunities for people to understand what roles trained med lab technologists can play in a variety of health care settings.
