Take a coffee break, says the Alzheimer Society of B.C., during the celebration of their 35th anniversary.

The Coffee Break campaign is part of a nationwide effort to raise funds and awareness for the more than 70,000 British Columbians living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

The project is a month-long event beginning on Sept. 15.

There are two ways to join in the effort: serve coffee, or ask for donations and put up a paper coffee cup display recognizing those who donated.

Serving coffee is the best for individuals, businesses, schools and non-profits. Simply turn a regular cup of coffee into an opportunity to donate to the society.

The coffee cutouts work best for retailers asking customers to donate. Then get customers to write their name on a paper coffee cup that will become part of a visual display including all who donated to the cause.

Over the last 21 years the Coffee Break has raised more than $1 million for the provincial Alzheimer Society.

Register online and the society will send a Coffee Break kit with everything needed to participate.
