The process of selecting a jury for a murder trial began Monday morning with a warning that the proceedings are expected to take eight weeks.

Given the large number of witnesses, the best guess is that the trial for Jesse Norman Sweder, accused of shooting to death Peter Jean Letendre, will last until mid-November, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Glenn Parrett told the court.

After a hung jury was reached in July 2010 following seven weeks of testimony, Sweder is facing a second trial. Letendre, whose body was found on Norwood Street near 20th Avenue on Dec. 11, 2004.

The trial itself will begin Thursday to allow jury members to get their affairs in order.
