A 41-year-old man, "well-known to police" is in custody after RCMP seized an assortment of suspicious items when called to a report early Friday morning of two men hiding in the bushes behind a Cuddie Crescent home.
RCMP responded to the call with significant patrols of the area and shortly after 3 a.m. stopped a lone man walking along Cuddie.
When he ignored RCMP commends, he was stopped and detained and a pat down search yielded what first appeared to be a handgun but was then determined to be a BB gun.
Police said a further search uncovered a steel hammer, a ski mask, a balaclava, a wig and a sharpened screwdriver.
Quinnton Vern Campbell has since been charged with one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of break-in Instruments and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order and remained in custody as of Monday.
"The Prince George RCMP are concerned about the use of replica firearms," the detachment said in a statement. "In order to protect themselves and the public, police officers must assume items that look like guns are in fact guns.
"Anyone in possession of replica guns should be aware that improper use could draw the attention of police and an enhanced response."
