A 46-year-old Prince George man was arrested after allegedly trying to flee police following a head-on collision and biting one of the arresting officers in the process.

It all began just after midnight on Saturday when RCMP were called to the scene of a collision between a car and a full-size pickup truck on Highway 16 at Marleau Road.

As police were being called, the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. Police tracked him to a nearby mall where he was found hiding in a delivery vehicle.

"The suspect displayed signs of being intoxicated by alcohol and bit one of the officers while in the process of being arrested," RCMP said.

Police said it appears the suspect was driving on the wrong side of the highway when the collision occurred. He was taken to hospital and checked for injuries and then held overnight at the Prince George RCMP detachment and was released on a promise to appear in court in late August.

The suspect's name was not released and charges remain pending.

The driver of the pickup truck was no seriously injured.
