Charges have been approved against a man at the centre of a dramatic takedown Friday morning.
Ian Benjamin Clark, 32, faces counts of fleeing police, dangerous driving and possession of stolen property under $5,000 as well as two charges under the Motor Vehicle Act and two counts of breaching probation.
He was arrested following a chase that began when a he was seen near Fifth Avenue and Highway 97 driving a vehicle that was reported stolen, according to police.
When RCMP tried to pull him over, he took off but collided with a curb. Clark then fled on foot, police said.
RCMP called in its Air 3 helicopter and a service dog and handler, who eventually tracked the suspect to the bottom side of a stairwell.
Clark, who police have described as a “prolific car thief” also faces a count of possession of stolen property from an alleged April 19 incident. He remained in custody as of Monday.
