A man involved in a hit-and-run in Kamloops almost three years ago was arrested in Prince George earlier today (March 13).
Kamloops Mounties say a female jogger was struck by a vehicle on West Athabasca Street on the morning of Aug. 28, 2016. The driver sped off, according to a press release, and the jogger suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Police searched the area extensively following the hit-and-run and eventually found the suspect vehicle later that day near the Halston overpass. It had been stolen earlier in the morning.
"The suspect's DNA was found inside the vehicle but it did not match any of the samples within the National DNA Data Bank," says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie in the release. "Recently, the DNA was matched with a suspect who was from Kamloops but currently living in Prince George."
That suspect has been identified as Joshua Pooli. He will be transported to Kamloops to face the following charges:
- Failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm
- Possession of stolen property
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
"We are very pleased that a suspect has been identified," says Shelkie. "This is a case where modern police investigative techniques and patience has paid off."
