Prince George RCMP are on the lookout for a suspect after an 88-year-old man was assaulted during a home invasion early Wednesday morning.

The suspect is described as a tall, 25-to-35-year-old man with a thin build. He left behind a "Coors Light" backpack cooler.

Police said the victim awoke at 4 a.m. to find the man in his ground floor 1800-block Third Avenue apartment. The victim called RCMP from hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

"Although the motive for this home invasion is not clear, it appears it was a random act and that the suspect tried to take advantage of an open window," RCMP said.

Anyone with information that could locate the suspect is asked contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be provided online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or by texting CRIMES using keyword "pgtips."
