After a photo from a taxi surveillance camera was circulated by local media, the man who attacked a Prince George cab driver may now be identified.
Police began the search for the suspect after a cabbie drove a lone male from the vicinity of Highway 16 and Highway 97 to the area of Alexander Crescent and Anthlone Avenue on the evening of Jan. 23.
Instead of paying for the ride, said police spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass, the passenger "became agitated and began to assault the driver by putting an arm around his neck. The suspect then demanded the victim's money, but the victim was able to fight off the suspect while yelling for help.
"The suspect fled on foot near Alexander Crescent, without
obtaining money."
The 63-year-old cabbie, neck bleeding, drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police announced Friday morning that a suspect has been arrested.
"The Prince George RCMP would like to advise the public that on Feb. 24 at around 2:25 a.m., Kevin James Monk was arrested [regarding] the attempted robbery," said police spokeswoman Const. Julie Champagne.
"The Prince George RCMP would like to thank those members of the public that greatly assisted in identifying this suspect, by providing vital information."
Monk is scheduled to appear in court in about two weeks on a charge of robbery.
