One suspect is under arrest for arson and the residents of a home in the VLA are cleaning up their unit after a fire on Tuesday evening.
The fire broke out at about 6:15 p.m. at 1478 Diefenbaker Drive. The building was a duplex with four separate units.
"On arrival, first in-crews found smoke coming from the bedroom in one of the four units in the duplex. An interior attack quickly knocked down the fire," said Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Denis Poulin. The fire was limited to one of the upper units.
Three of the city's four fire halls responded, sending 16 firefighters.
"There were five people who were home at the time of the fire," Poulin said. "Two occupants were examined on scene by BC Ambulance Service and released. There were no injuries to firefighters."
Cherri Kaitlyn Gunanoot, 21, has been charged with two counts of arson.
"There were allegedly two points of origin at this incident," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "There is no reason for us to believe, even after investigation, that she is involved in any other fire. We believe this was an isolated incident."
The cost estimate from the fire is $15,000 damage to the structure.
