On July 13 at approximately 5 a.m., RCMP received a report of a stolen all-terrain vehicle on Foreman Road in the northeast corner of Prince George.
Officers attended and found that a blue Quest brand four wheel ATV was taken from the yard of the residence and an attempt was made to steal a 'side by side' ATV. A suspect was seen on foot fleeing into the bushes. Patrols for the suspect were negative.
At approximately 5:15 a.m., Prince George RCMP received a call of a suspicious vehicle and two suspicious males on Graves Road, across Highway 16 from Foreman Road. Police attended the area, but did not locate either the vehicle or the suspects.
George RCMP received a call of a suspicious person near residences on Foreman Road. Police attended the area and spotted an adult male, wearing all black and apparently soaking wet. The male immediately fled at the sight of police. The Police Dog Service attended the area and began to track the suspect near the railway track. For the safety of all involved, CN Rail was contacted and asked to hold any trains along that section of track.
After approximately an hour of tracking through thick, heavy brush, the suspect was located and resisted officers attempting to make an arrest. Police Dog "Azar" secured the suspect until officers could complete the arrest. The 19-year-old male Prince George resident, was transported to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. by the BC Ambulance Service for treatment of his minor wounds, including a dog bite.
The suspect was released on a promise to appear for court on October 12. Police are recommending charges of theft over $5,000 and resisting arrest. The suspect is known to police.
Only one of the two ATVs were recovered, leading investigators to believe that more than one person was responsible for the thefts. Still missing is a blue Quest brand four wheel ATV. No further description was provided.
Due to the close proximity of the reports within a relatively short period of time, investigators believe that they are all associated.
The investigation is continuing.
The Prince George RCMP would like to thank CN Rail and their staff for assisting officers with this investigation. Officers often rely on their co-operation and area knowledge when investigating near railway tracks.
