Suspect arrested after crime spree

A 9-1-1 call came in at 5:36 Thursday night reporting a female was assaulted with a hammer by a lone male in University Heights.

As police went to respond, more information came in that a female who stopped to check her mail near the entrance of the subdivision the suspect entered her car and demanded her keys. When she refused he struck her with a hammer.

The victim fled with the keys to a nearby home and called for help.

Within moment of the first call a second 9-1-1 call advised the man had forcibly entered a residence and punched a female while trying to obtain her car keys. The residence was in the same area as the first assault.

The suspect fled on foot.

A perimeter had been set up and a police dog was requested to help with the search.

Minutes later a third call came in saying an adult male had been assaulted with a piece of drain pipe by another man on Kinney Court, about a block for the other assaults.

Astro the service dog and his handler was on scene to track the suspect through the wooded area around the subdivision.

Astro tracked the man towards Davis Road off Ospika Drive. the area was secured.

At about 6:45 p.m. a homeowner flagged down a police officer and advised that a man had broken into his house on Bona Dea Drive, off Davis Road.

Police attended and arrested a 52-year-old Prince George resident attempting to steal a vehicle in the driveway of the home.

After a minute Astro finished tracking the suspect, and indications were he had entered the house through a dog door before exiting and making his way to the vehicle.

Checks of the first and second victims' vehicles found that they had damage to the ignition.

The Prince George RCMP's Forensic Identification Section attended the scenes to get evidence.

The suspect will be in custody at least until his first court appearance today.

This investigation will continue.
