Being a major advocate of safe shelters for women and children, Elizabeth Fry Society in Prince George is an ongoing supporter of its Amber House in Prince George and a rare transition home for women and children in India.
"The one in India is quite a new concept, and it has a residence component that offers a few beds," said Amanda Alexander, E. Fry, manager of women and children services.
E.Fry members are holding an Adopt A Shelter event in partnership with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Cranbrook Room at the Ramada Hotel
The event twill feature accomplished classical singer, Shante Van Horlick who has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall.
The evening offers a variety of ethnic appetizers, a silent auction with such items as a barbecue and bed & breakfast stays, portraits by photographer Melony Faulkner and a door prize from Michael's Jewelry.
Tickets, at PGSO office, Homework, Ohh Chocolat and Shhh... fashion shop are $25.
Funds raised at the second annual Adopt A Shelter event will be spilt between the two shelters, with 50 per cent to help keep the local house operating and 50 per cent to further develop the program in India.
"Proceeds will be added to the $20,000 we've already raised for the houses," said Alexander.
