Sunny and warm today, rain expected to move into P.G. tomorrow

The Victoria Day weekend weather outlook is still looking good for Prince George.

Today is going to be mostly sunny with a high of 20 expected, continuing the pattern of clear and warm weather that moved in under a ridge of high pressure on Friday.

Campers taking advantage of the long weekend for their first extended outdoor excursions are in for at least one more day of sunny skies and warmth. There might be a few showers tonight, with a 30 per cent risk, and winds gusting to 40 kilometres per hour at night. More rain is expected Monday with a forecast  high of 17 C and a 30 per cent chance of precipitation.

After that, the weather takes a turn for the worse Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. With highs in the 15-16 C range and lows around 4-5 C. Environment Canada is predicting a 60 per cent chance of rain showers Tuesday and Thursday and a there’s a 30 per cent chance on Wednesday.

The good news is there’s more sun and warm temperatures predicted for next weekend, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs expected to reach 20 C Friday and Saturday.

Saturday’s high reached 21.6 C at Prince George Airport, just shy of the warmest day so far in 2021. On April 17 the high hit 21.8 C. Saturday’s low was just above the freezing mark at 0.3 C. We’ve had seven days in May in which the mercury plunged below the O C. The average high for this time of year is 17.5 C, while the average low is 4.2 C.
