The biggest street party of the year happens Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Prince George.

Summerfest features live entertainment on the main stage, including a magician, a P.G. Idol finalist, Bright City Heights, Sound Addiction and Highball Riot.

The biggest draw is the Tourism P.G. Taste Pavilion that's located in front of Northern Hardware at the corner of Third Avenue and Brunswick Street. There are 18 local restaurants that will offer 38 food and beverage samplings from Teriyaki Chicken Yakitori to Fish Tacos, McCracken Rolls to veggie samosas, garlic fries to saffron chicken kabobs.

To work it, patrons purchase taste tickets for $1 and each food item costs between $1 and $5. Many of the restaurants in the pavilion won't be accepting cash, so they can focus on the food, so the tickets are the only way to go. Carla Johnston, executive director of Downtown Prince George, recommends adults purchase $25 worth of tickets, while $12 should do it for children.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Northern Hardware at the upstairs office or at the Farmers' Market on Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. Pre-sale tickets is the perfect solution to avoid taste pavilion lineups, due to its great popularity.

In the Canfor Kids' Zone there is a live fish pond.

"That's always a huge hit," said Johnston.

Other fun acitivities during Summerfest includes the mini rail from the Central BC Railway & Forestry Industry Museum, Wendy's Frosty eating contest, face painting and street performers.

To keep guests interested there are more than 30 exhibitors that will line the streets.

Summerfest is located on Third and Fourth Avenues and Quebec Street.

"Local talent, local restaurants, local fun," laughed Johnston.

Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no entry fee for Summerfest.
