The public can view the beauty of northern fall colours while strolling through the mall thanks to a series by Quesnel photographer and graphic designer Bob Michek.

Celebrate Northern Living - the Legacy, fulfilled Pine Centre Mall's call for regional photographers to submit works best reflecting the beauty of the area and its peaceful rural lifestyle.

The display officially opens this morning at 9:30 a.m. at Pine Centre Mall's centre court.

Mall patrons can bask in the beauty, and the first 200 attending the opening can pick up a 14-month calendar depicting northern images for free.

Michek had already done the summer version of the series so he was well prepared for the fall series.

"I did the photos from all over the place," said Michek. "The Ancient Forest - I wish I could have done more photos of that place. What a gorgeous, gorgeous place. I feel like I found a real treasure there."

Other pictures highlight people walking in Connaught Park with their Great Dane, as well as rural settings.

Michek took hundreds of photos and presented the best to Pine Centre staffers, Sandra Raymont, marketing manager, and Sonya Hunt, mall manager.

"Once they picked which ones they wanted I processed them and enlarged the images," Michek explained.

The nature scenes Michek depicts in his photos brings out the environmentalist in him, he said, especially when exploring and considering the preservation of the Ancient Forest.

The 2011/2012 calendar will be available to the public for purchase at Customer Service on October 15, while supplies last. The $10 fee collected will be donated to The Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre for the Fort George Explorers After School Care Program.

The program offers a foundation grounded in hands-on educational and social experiences. It is designed to captivate the interests of participating children and entice them to explore the world around them. The educational philosophy of The Fort George Explorers centres on promoting lifelong learning opportunities for participants and their families in the areas of science, arts, culture and heritage.

Everyone is welcome to attend the opening reception and refreshments will be served.
