Students from the Northern Medical Program and runners from around central B.C. will be hitting the road on Sunday to raise money for local healthcare programs.
The second-year students in medical program are hosting the ninth annual Run for Rural Medicine to raise funds for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
"It's a great opportunity to bring together Prince George's strong running community with the Northern Medical Program to join efforts in raising funds for the Spirit of the North," co-organizer Stefan Widmer said in a news release.
The medical students organized the event in conjunction with Stride and Glide Sports and the Prince George Road Runners.
The event, which starts at the Hart Community Centre, includes run/walk distances of five kilometres, 10 km and 21 km in addition to a one kilometre kids run.
"This run speaks volumes to the pride Northerners take in their own health and wellness," Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation CEO Judy Neiser said in a news release. "What a great way to get out and be part of a healthy lifestyle, a great cause, and contribute to advancing healthcare in the north."
Registration information is available in the events section at www.strideandglide.ca. Online registration closes on Saturday at 6 p.m., but there will also be a chance to sign up the day of the race. The registration fee is $15 and socks will also be sold at the event to raise additional funds.
