Nineteen students in School District 57 have earned $1,000 apprenticeship scholarships, school board trustees were told Tuesday night.
The recipients, and their sponsor employers, are: Richard Bethell (Earl's Restaurant), Tearislee Bishop (Save on Foods), Marissa Camps (Save on Foods), Brandon Evans (Save on Foods), Jordan Hogben (Earl's Restaurant), Stephen Fancy (Benchmark Woodworking), Sean Field (White Spot), Tyler Fowler (Stewart Ives Carpentry), Michael Jones (Red Robin), James Kordyban (Carrier Lumber), Michael Lehmann (Wolftek-Burke Purdon Enterprises), David Lerch (Caribou Grill), Amelia Maletta (Save on Foods), Paulina Nielson (Save on Foods), Shawn Parks(Hollywood Fabricating), Colton Pidherny (Ali -Craft Boats Ltd.), Darcy Roe (Lobol Enterprises), Kirk Torgerson (Pitman Ashphalt) and Nicholas Winther (Save on Foods).
Sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the Industry Training Authority and administered by School District 57's career programs office, and students are eligible for the program if they are attending school, are between 15 and 19 years of age and are working in a trade related field with an eligible sponsor.
In order to receive a scholarship, students have to graduate, maintain a C+ average in their Grade 12 courses and do a minimum of 1,100 hours of work-based training.
There are about 60 students enrolled in the secondary school apprenticeship program in School District 57.
