The creation of a 12-year-old student at Spruceland Traditional Elementary School has been chosen to be the logo for the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society's Organizing Against Racism and Hate campaign.
Ayame Sivertsen's image of two hands forming a heart through which the world is seen was recently selected by a panel of judges to be the logo for OARH promotional material in communities stretching from 100 Mile House to Prince George.
Sivertsen takes a fine arts class at Spruceland but the inspiration for the depiction came after she took some advice from her grandmother, local artist Cat Sivertsen, and began to draw "real things, something that I could see."
The OARH program is funded by EmbraceBC, a branch of the provincial government, and is charged with helping smaller communities work together to develop better responses to incidents of racism and hate crime.
