The days of studded tires are rolling to an end for another year.
RCMP are reminding drivers that studded tires have to be changed over within the next two weeks.
"They have to be off by May 1," said North District RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. "By midnight on April 30 it becomes an offense to drive around with studded tires on your vehicle."
There is a fine of $109 for those who miss the deadline.
"This doesn't mean all winter tires have to be changed over by then. Tthe fines are for studded tires only," Saunderson said.
Tire retailers have been urging drivers for more than a week that non-studded winter tires can be worn down at higher rates on bare roads, and most local highways and byways are now clear of snow and ice.
