On Sept. 29 the Prince George RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit in partnership with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Team (CVSE) conducted a road check at the top of University Way.

At 9:45 p.m., a CVSE officer observed a black GMC pick-up truck travelling northbound on Tyner Boulevard approaching the check stop. The truck made a u-turn and left the area southbound on Tyner Boulevard. The CVSE officer activated his emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over at Tyner Boulevard by the entrance to Greenway park. An RCMP officer attended shortly after.

The vehicle had terminated B.C. license plates. Police computer checks of the vehicle identification number (VIN) found that the truck had been reported stolen from Hanna, Alberta on Sept. 24. Four persons were found to be in the vehicle, two males and two females. All four occupants were arrested for possession of stolen property. The vehicle was searched, seized and towed.

The driver, a 47-year-old Prince George resident known to police, did not have a valid driver's license and was in fact prohibited from driving in British Columbia. Although the driver had been consuming alcohol in the vehicle, his breath sample was not over either the BC Motor Vehicle Act or criminal code limit for impaired driving.

While speaking with an officer, the male passenger provided two false names. One of the false names was a missing man from Hanna, Alberta. Shortly after, the male was identified as a 19 year old originally from Hanna, Alberta, but now residing in Prince George. The man had an arrest warrant in his name for mischief and breach of recognizance, relating to a Prince George RCMP investigation from Feb. 11.

Criminal code charges are pending against the two males. The two females were released without charge.
