Still room in RCMP Girls' Run for Fun

Prince George RCMP's Girls' Run for Fun has completed its first week, but it's still not too late to join, says program coordinator Linda Parker.

Prince George RCMP's Girls' Run for Fun has completed its first week, but it's still not too late to join, says program coordinator Linda Parker.

Open to girls 10 to 15 years old and at no cost, the seven-week program, which began last Tuesday, culminates in a five-kilometre run or walk at Fort George Park on June 21, complete with a picnic for the girls and their families, also at no cost.

It's about more than working up a sweat. Each of the 14 sessions leading up to the big day will begin with a guest speaker who will talk about such issues as drug and alcohol awareness, social media safety, anti-bullying, nutrition and self esteem.

The girls will then break into training groups, based on ability, and work towards a goal of completing the final five kilometre challenge race.

The group, now up to 44 participants, continues to meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the Fort George Park bandshell, from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Registration forms will provided at the location but they can also be picked up at the new Prince George RCMP detachment at 455 Victoria St.

For more information, call Parker can be reached at 250-561-3319 or [email protected].
