Still in the playoff hunt

Tracey Jones stole a win away from Allison MacInnes on Thursday morning to stay in the playoff hunt at the B.C. Scotties women's provincial curling championship.

Jones, who has had draw weight in her pocket all week long, stole one in the 10th and another in the extra end to beat MacInnes 10-9. Jones was able to put rocks in the four-foot, behind cover in each of the final two ends. In the 10th, MacInnes was heavy on a draw and in the extra end she jammed on a double takeout attempt.

The win moves Jones to 3-4 for the week, along with fellow Prince George rink Patti Knezevic, MacInnes of Abbotsford and Marla Mallett of the Cloverdale club in Surrey. Those four rinks are all tied for fifth place with two draws to play and need to win out and get a little bit of help to earn a tiebreaker spot.

Knezevic struggled in her first game on Thursday, giving up two three-enders in a 9-6 loss to Kesa Van Osch of Victoria. Van Osch moved to 6-1 and remained in a tie for first place with Kelly Scott of Kelowna.

Scott was a 7-3 winner over Karla Thompson of Kamloops, dropping Thompson into a tie for third at 4-3. Also at 4-3 is Victoria's Sarah Wark who was upset by capital region rival Shawna Jensen 7-5. The win was the first for Jensen this week.

In what amounted to an elimination game, Mallett rallied from an early deficit to beat Vancouver's Amy Gibson 6-4 to stay on four losses, while Gibson fell to 2-5.

The teams are back on the ice Thursday night and the round robin concludes on Friday morning. Tiebreakers, if necessary, will take place on Friday afternoon and evening.

The playoffs also begin on Friday, with the Page 1-2 game set for 7 p.m.
