StartUp Canada has once again pointed a finger at Prince George.
The national not-for-profit agency devoted to boosting new businesses has been a fan of P.G. since it first launched two years ago. They came here on their inaugural cross-Canada tour, they made Prince George one of the nation's first official StartUp Communities, their magazine has featured local perspectives, several mentorship events have been held in Prince George, and now this city has been given a national honour.
Local entrepreneur Shauna Harper got to deliver the news, as one of StartUp Canada's key organizers in northern B.C.
"We live in the most entrepreneurial city in B.C. We won the Startup Canada regional (BC) award for Startup Community of the Year," Harper said.
According to the national organization, the award recognizes "the official Startup Canada Community that has most successfully advanced their local entrepreneur community through both strengthening their local entrepreneurship ecosystem and culture as well as advancing Canada's entrepreneurship ecosystem through active engagement and contribution nationally."
The announcement was made this week, and a reception will take place for all the regional award winners (there are 16 categories) on May 12, and the regional winners are all still in the running for the national awards to be announced in June.
