Police have arrested Marcel James Abou, 26, the prime suspect in a knife incident earlier this month.

The alleged stabbing happened on a downtown street corner on Feb. 7 at about 8 p.m. Police were called to an altercation between two men at 4th Avenue and Dominion Street, but by the time they arrived one man was gone from the scene and the one remaining had a bloody wound.

"Investigators believe that during the fight, one male pulled a knife and stabbed the other," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "The victim gained control of the knife and threw it onto a nearby building. Prince George Fire / Rescue was called to assist in the recovery of the knife."

The knife had not yet been recovered as of the last police report. The victim was taken to hospital but was discharged to recover from non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was identified as Abou and a public search for him got underway. He is a Prince George resident with ties to the Tsay Keh Dene / Fort Ware area.

On Monday, RCMP located Abou and arrested him without incident. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance, scheduled for Feb. 29 at the Prince George Provincial Courthouse.

Recommended charges include:

- assault with a weapon

- three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance

- two counts of failing to comply with probation

Abou was also wanted in British Columbia for break-and-enter, mischief, obstructing a peace officer and breaching conditions related to three previous incidents in Prince George in 2011.
