Squabble with city over logging trucks heading to court

City hall is taking a Prince George businessman to court, alleging he is contravening the zoning bylaw by storing and repairing logging trucks on residential property.

City hall is taking a Prince George businessman to court, alleging he is contravening the zoning bylaw by storing and repairing logging trucks on residential property.

In a notice of civil claim filed at the Prince George courthouse, the city alleges the activity is taking place at 2957 and 2971 Andres Road, in the Peden Hill area, and has been happening since at least August 2009.

The properties are respectively zoned single residential and two-unit residential and parking of heavy vehicles on either is limited to three hours per day between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. and prohibited completely overnight, according to the city.

It also says the repair, washing or painting of vehicles on such property is prohibited under the city's home-based business provisions.

John Christenson has countered that city employees told his father that logging trucks could be parked on properties north of Ospika Boulevard, a claim the city denies.

The city is seeking court orders requiring Christenson to cease those activities as well as to refrain from parking more than four vehicles on either property at any time.

The issue is set to go before a B.C. Supreme Court Justice on Sept. 9 at the Prince George courthouse.
