The Prince George Costco raised $65,474 for healthcare in the north.
In May, Costco's Campaign for Kids raised $38,444. Partnering with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, Costco held a raffle that raised $19,265, where the main prize was a barbecue and $500 Costco gift card.
Combining the two fundraising efforts the total was $57,709, Costco then donated $7,765, rounding the number to $65,474.
"Knowing the money raised at Costco Prince George stays in Prince George definitely makes us proud to be able to support such a worthwhile cause," said Kim Bittner, assistant manager at the Costco in Prince George.
Spirit of the North is raising $1.4 million to purchase the Diagnostic SPECT CT, which is a leading technology for early detection and an accurate diagnosis for a wide range of conditions, at times eliminating the need for other tests. The technology used in the device captures two different kinds of real-time images, nuclear and radiology, and merges them into one field to produce a more precise image in a shorter time, with up to 50 per cent less radiation than other scans.
