The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is encouraging northern B.C. residents to take part in the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this month.

It's the sixth year Canada Helps has run the national donation campaign. Every donation made to registered charities through CanadaHelps.org until the end of June enters that charity in a contest to win an additional $20,000 donation from Canada Helps.

In 2019 more than 109,000 people participated in the Great Giving Challenge, donating more than $14 million to approximately 12,000 charities.

"Charities across Canada are facing fundraising shortfalls and a number of challenges due to COVID-19 and the associated social distancing – Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is no exception," foundation CEO Judy Neiser said in a press release. "We truly believe that healthcare touches us all but each of us in different ways. COVID-19 is one of them, but we don’t want to neglect the many other areas of healthcare that need state of the art equipment, the ability to detect early and more accurately and take care of patients in the north."

The Spirt of the North Healthcare Foundation is asking northern B.C. residents to take part, with a local campaign called Make a Difference Mondays. Residents are asked to make a minimum $5 donation to the foundation through CanadaHelps.org and challenge five friends to do the same.

"We are powered by the passion of our donors that this is the time for healthcare more than ever, as we see how it touches all of us, and right now it has the power to bring us all together," Neiser said.
