The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation has rescheduled its annual fundraising telethon for September, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Spirit Day was scheduled to take place May 4, but will now happened on Sept. 17.
“Our primary concern is that everyone stays safe and in good health. Never has the need been greater to fund healthcare equipment in specific areas and yet like many we are forced to cancel this event,” foundation CEO Judy Neiser said in a press release. "We will look forward to working with our partners and supporters in September and in the meantime wish everyone well during such unusual times.”
Spirit Day is an 11-hour radiothon held each year at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. and two local radio stations. Volunteers at banks of phones take donations to support healthcare initiatives in northern B.C.
"This event allows members of the community to share their stories, their passion for healthcare and how it touches them, and contribute at any level – anything no matter what the contribution is greatly appreciated," Neiser said.
This year the foundation has created a COVID19-#safeathome fund to support the purchase of respiratory equipment and other responses to the pandemic.
