Warm weather often brings a rise in thefts from vehicles and police say it's no different this summer.
"With the increase in temperature has come an increase in thefts from vehicles in Prince George," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said Monday. "The detachment has seen a spike in these offences since the middle of May. Similar spikes occur every summer in most communities throughout B.C."
The thefts occur every day of the week and mostly during the late night or early morning hours, Douglass said, and added most are a result of people leaving their vehicle doors unlocked. "Although thieves will do damage if they can see something they want through the windows, most of these crimes could be prevented if doors were looked," Douglass said.
Owners should also refrain from leaving valuable items inside their vehicles, he added.
